Launched in 2006,
fashion label Milk From A Thistle is the creation of Sydney
based designer Danielle Atkinson. After beginning her working life in the music
industry, Danielle returned to her original love of fashion by studying textile
design at East Sydney TAFE. From there the label - and its signature bold hand-
and digital- prints on flowing, easy-fit garments - was born.
Milk From A Thistle is inspired by Danielle’s love of design rather than current fashion trends. Her ideas come from a kaleidoscope of people, places and things. She loves scouring second hand stores for inspirational gems such as vintage prints and children’s books. Other designers such as Marni, Erdem, Karen Walker, Lover, Dries Van Noten, Dianne Von Furstenberg, Chloe and Marimekko influence her too.
Danielle’s designs
are the result of her passion for textural mediums. She uses pen drawings,
different printing mediums and quirky techniques such as screen-printing over
strands of string or leaves. It is this love of fabric and
textile design that is
the foundation of the label.
